Wed 21 May 20257:30 pmREG MEUROSS & THE STRIKE – FIRE & DUST
Presented by: St Edith FolkCommissioned and produced by Pete Townshend and created by Reg Meuross, Fire & Dust – The Woody Guthrie Story, is a journey into the heart and soul of one of America’s finest folk musicians.
“Reg’s terrific songs tell Woody’s life story with respect and affection, but also truth.“ ~ Pete Townshend
At this show Reg is joined by three members of his band – The Strike – the name drawing from the energy of collective action bringing Fire & Dust to life and channelling the spirit of Guthrie’s defiant activism, creative brilliance, and unyielding hope for justice.
The Strike are Phil Beer (The Albion Band, Johnny Coppin, Show of Hands); Welsh pianist and accordionist Geraint Watkins (Nick Lowe, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney) and renowned string player Marion Fleetwood (TRADarrr, IOTA, The Sandy Denny Project and Fleetwood Cave)
With songs and stories that highlight Guthrie’s fight against racism, inequality, and injustice, Fire & Dust draws poignant parallels between Guthrie’s time and our present day. Townshend saw this project as drawing a direct line from Woody Guthrie through Bob Dylan to Reg Meuross, and described it as “folk music at its best.”
This extraordinary performance combines Meuross’s song-writing mastery with Guthrie’s enduring legacy, creating an unforgettable evening of music, storytelling, and history.
“His song-writing comes straight from the heart, the melodies fall under the fingers. This is folk music at its best.” ~ Pete Townshend
“There’s something special about the way he writes and delivers a song” ~ Townes Van ZandtTickets are sold on behalf of St Edith Folk

Sun 13 July 20251:00 pmMAN THE LIFEBOATS – with Chris Fox
Presented by: St Edith FolkFrom full-throttle folk flings to darker ruminations, traditional instrumentals to tender ballads, and (of course) an obligatory ranting protest song or three, Man The Lifeboats got together in 2016 with a view to deliver a “tonic for these troubled times.” The sound “blazes bright with its incendiary violins, glowing accordions and profound lyricism that will warm even the coldest of souls”, managing to feel fun and modern, without losing sight of the more traditional aspects of the folk genre.
Their music is evocative of the Pogues, the Levellers and Frank Turner, all self-professed influences, and even New Order, in that they can pair ennui-riddled politically-charged lyrics with tunes that demand to be danced to. They might not be able to “write a happy ending to this wasted life” as frontman Rich Quarterman sings, but they can write a relentless hook to go with a pint in the meantime.
Man The Lifeboats really are one of the live sensations on the folk scene at the moment. Don’t miss them!Tickets are sold on behalf of St Edith Folk
