Cranbrook Operatic and Dramatic Society

Cranbrook Operatic and Dramatic Society (CODS) encourages the performance of all amateur theatre: musical, dramatic and comedy.  CODS was founded in 1919 by a group of friends who wanted to enjoy themselves and raise money for charity.  Although CODS is now a recognised body affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), these original aims remain at the heart of the group today.

CODS’s first production was “The Mikado” in 1920, which played to full houses of press and public, who were amazed at the talent of local people.  Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, the enthusiasm and talent continue today with CODS producing around three shows a year, usually a charity concert in February, a spring play, and a musical in October.  The Society regularly enters Kent Drama Association (KDA) festivals and has had success in many categories.

Away from the stage, CODS boasts a lively social scene, including barn dances, quiz nights, barbecues, walks and after-show dinners.  There are many different ways to get involved in CODS: costume, front of house, publicity, sound, lighting, set design, scenery-painting, hair/make-up, directing, acting, singing, dancing, and, of course, support from the audience.  Our first point of contact is: Michelle: 01580 752802,

It makes a change to hear against the doom and gloom of companies falling by the wayside to hear something positive and applaud it’s success! Yew Tree theatre school has been a small family run business for almost 18 years. Starting as a drama workshop based on Yew Tree Farm Brenchley, its founder Christina Yates has carried the school through many trials and challenges.
