• Simon Yates – My Mountain Life

    April 18th, 2024

SIMON YATES OF TOUCHING THE VOID – MY MOUNTAIN LIFE
A fascinating and humorous evening, acclaimed by both regular theatre patrons and outdoor enthusiasts alike!
On the remote Siula Grande in Peru in June 1985, mountaineer Simon Yates found himself in a desperately unenviable position. He was slowly being pulled off the mountain face by his injured partner, Joe Simpson, dangling on the rope 50 metres below. His decision to cut the rope saved both their lives in the epic of survival that followed and with the publication of the book ‘Touching The Void’, later film and stage play, both climbers became household names. It was an experience that could have put many off the sport of mountaineering – but not Simon. Over 35 years later, he is still a very active exploratory climber and guide, making several expeditions to the mountains each year. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Alaska to Central Asia there is hardly a significant range that he has not visited. Come along and witness Simon’s tireless journey from that mountain in Peru to some of the remotest on the planet and share with him the drama, excitement and beauty of modern, lightweight alpinism. Told with wit, dry humour and lavishly illustrated with images and film collected on his great climbs.

“Simon is a totally engaging speaker, who both entertains and inspires.”

  • OYSTERBAND – A LONG LONG GOODBYE

    November 23rd, 2024

OYSTERBAND ‘A LONG LONG GOODBYE’ – AFTER 45 YEARS ON THE ROAD, OYSTERBAND HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE THE TOUR BUS OUT FOR ITS LAST RIDE.

“We’re hanging up our travelling shoes, but we’re taking a year or so to say goodbye to our lovely live audience, and we mean to enjoy every minute!” Emerging in the early 80s from their folk club and ceilidh band days, Oysterband infused both the tradition and their own songs with a passion and energy that was electrifying for the time. Polkas, politics and a heaving dance floor seemed just right for Thatcher’s Britain. Signing to new roots label Cooking Vinyl, headlining English Roots Against Apartheid, playing Glastonbury and the Fleadh several times each, touring with The Pogues in Europe and Billy Bragg in North America, hosting the Big Session Festival….. all gained them a large and loyal international following. Their collaboration with June Tabor in 1990 produced the cult-classic album Freedom & Rain, and it was renewed 21 years later for Ragged Kingdom, one of the best-selling folk-rock albums of the new millennium. Winners of several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including Best Band twice, Oysterband’s song-writing has never stood still, and classics such as The Oxford Girl, When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down), Everywhere I Go and Put Out The Lights have entered the folk canon.“It’s been a long, tough, joyful journey, but the time has come. In the words of our own song Granite Years, we’re waving you a long, long goodbye…..come help us celebrate!”

Oysterband will be going out on a high as they bid “A Long Long Goodbye” to fans and friends with a series of unmissable shows. They’ve travelled the world but they still play with the fire of that dance band back in Kent.

Tickets will go on sale Friday the 5th of April.

  • Russell Hicks: Happy To Be Here

    February 28th, 2025

Russell Hicks: Happy To Be Here
Russell Hicks heads out on his first tour, but not his first rodeo. (Warning: This is a stand-up show. NOT a rodeo.)  Russell Hicks is here to stay and he really is happy to be here. So, why don’t British People believe him?
Hot off the back of a starring role in an Amazon Prime show that nobody watched, and was cancelled immediately, American Stand Up comedian Russell Hicks, lives in the UK where he allegedly performs stand-up comedy. Naturally, his parents still think he makes his money through some kind of illegal activity, so buy some tickets and help prove his legitimacy!
You may have heard Russell as the voice of Sky Comedy, seen him entertain studio audiences at ‘Have I Got News for You’ or caught him opening for the likes of Al Murray or ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winner Axel Blake. He’s performed up and down this country, picking up three Leicester Festival nominations along the way. He’s even been officially declared a Global Talent by Arts Council England.
Known for his improvised performances, Russell Hicks has amassed millions of views online, and gained a devoted following of fans who’ve come to know that no two shows will be the same. Considered one of the best improvisers in the country, Russell has appeared on some of the UK’s biggest networks. He has starred in several episodes of ITV’s ‘Stand Up Sketch Show,’ and won the Channel 4 competition series ‘Captive Audience’ with his fully improvised comedy, and starred in Prime Video series ‘Lovestruck High’ narrated by Lindsay Lohan as the loveable Texan Coach Hughes.
