 The Yew Tree Theatre School continues in its new base in Cranbrook School in January 2010
It makes a change to hear against the doom and gloom of companies falling by the wayside to hear something positive and applaud it’s success! Yew Tree theatre school has been a small family run business for almost 18 years. Starting as a drama workshop based on Yew Tree Farm Brenchley, its founder Christina Yates has carried the school through many trials and challenges.
Primarily started to improve ballet dancer’s confidence Yew Tree spread its wings to embrace singing and dance and gradually open bases all over Kent.
A busy mum of 2 Christina continued to churn out the highly professional shows from the traditional musicals; ‘Me and My Girl’ through the challenging with Sondhiem’s; Into The Woods to the insanely popular High School Musicals! Having battled through thyroid cancer when pregnant with her first child Christina has had no problem fending off problems facing the school least of all the ‘Credit Crunch’.

The normal classes held at weekends offer tuition from professionals in their own field of music, dance and drama. Extra time is given to students who wish to study Musical theatre and dance to higher levels and Yew Tree boasts a record of all merits and distinctions in this summer’s musical theatre /speech and drama exams. Last year’s IDTA dance exams notched up 12 Highly Commended and 26 honours!
Children can do as much or as little as they wish….but there is the choice. With visiting professionals from We Will Rock you to Wicked there is an abundance of up to date professional support and invited Musical Director who took time out from Marguerite in the West End asked to work again with the school amazed at its professionalism and dedication to getting the very best from it’s students.
